I went to a new dentist yesterday (finally), and HATED the hygienist. She was brutal during my cleaning, and my gums still hurt. I asked for a different one when(?) I go back in June.
So part of me wants to flee this place and never look back. BUT I have a wonky crown that really should be replaced. The dentist I spoke to yesterday wants to do it sooner rather than later to avoid worse problems down the road.
Do I suck it up and at least get the crown fixed with the Brute Squad, or do I try and find someone this summer who doesn't make me cringe?
Oh, that sucks. Had you not had a cleaning in a long time? This happened to me at my current dentist. I did switch to the other hygienist once, but then she left so i was stuck with the brutal one. I finally mentioned to her that my gums were really sensitive and she did get better. I also think that part of it was I hadn't been in a long time for the first visit, so she had more "work" to do to get them clean. Since I've been going every 6 months, the cleanings don't' really hurt anymore (same brutal hygienist).
Why can't you find someone else before the summer? I don't think one bad hygienist necessarily means the whole practice is bad, but I understand the preference to go somewhere you'd feel more comfortable overall. I just don't see why going to these people or waiting until next summer are your only two options.
I could find someone before my next cleaning, but I'm going to have zero experience with them, KWIM? I'd more or less be trusting them to be good without having any work done.
FWIW the dentist himself seemed decent. But it's hard to tell what they're like when they just show up to check on the hygienist's work.
