I put our old Christmas tree on Craigslist for $30 about a week ago. Last night, someone emailed asking if it was available. I responded within an hour. I haven't heard anything back.
Shortly after I responded, I came across a request on Craigslist for a free tree by a woman at a nearby Army post who said she has two young children and that money is tight.
If this sale doesn't pan out, I think I want to give my tree to this lady. It's been for sale over a week now, and I really just want it out of my house.
How long should I give the woman who emailed me to respond before I see if the second woman still needs a tree?

If the person emailed last night and hasn't followed up yet, I'd say their time is up. Buyers generally move really quickly on Craigslist- if they don't get in touch with the seller right away, they move on to another listing. I would try to give it to the second woman now.
I'd give it to the lady. I'm sure there's lots of trees available on CL for the person who hasn't responded. You've gotta be quick with CL, no guarantees.
Just being the first person to inquire to me does not reserve anything. It would be different if you had set up an appointment time for them to come by.
