I'm desperately in need of a new "nice" winter coat for work this year because mine is missing a button and a loop for the belt, and is generally getting too small.
I'm in the midwest and am currently 7 weeks pregnant, so I'll be about 26-30 weeks before the weather lets up here. I do also have a Columbia ski type jacket that I hope will still fit for a while, but it's not very professional.
I'm busty and since I want the coat to grow with me, I need something with the tie belt. But that coat doesn't have any pockets, which I'm not sure I can live without. Otherwise I like it, and think that the cowl neck could grow on me.
Anyone have suggestions for other similar coats, not necessarily cowl neck, under $100?
Do I bite the bullet and buy maternity? Or am I fine with a normal coat with a tie that I can still use next year?
You're pregnant? That belt will be really a huge PITA. Take the old coat to a tailor/alterations shop and have them switch out the buttons and make you a new loop, so you can use it for a while. Get a swing coat that will grow with you during the pregnancy. The less fabric around your face and neck the better; pregnancy makes you hot.
I could easily get the button and loop fixed on my current coat, but the biggest problem with my current coat is that the top button is already a pain because my boobs are huge and only getting bigger. I don't know that it will work much longer for that reason alone.
I'll have to look at a swing coat, I'm not familiar with that style.
I live in New England and have had 2 summer babies. Never did I need a maternity coat. Especially if this is your first, you should be fine with what you have. It sounds like the coat you have was already too small. Get a new one, but don't buy it bigger than you need now. Worst case, you don't button all of the buttons. If it's just for work, it just has to keep you warm to/from the car. Your ski coat will take care of the rest.
