Has yours ever stopped working? Mine just will not work anymore. I tried searching online and saw that some people recommend banging it (tried, no dice) and some people recommend running vinegar through it (tried, nada). I use distilled water in this and I assumed that was ideal, but apparently not. This does seem to be a problem with the newer ones. Any other tips? I am super tempted to buy a fifty dollar vintage one on ebay because old stuff just works better.

Is yours white with a red top? Apparently they sold the company and the ones that were made prior to selling are better. But who knows. Plenty of people use this one without trouble, so maybe I just got a lemon. I've had this unit for probably about a year, maybe a little more.

People in other forums that I found when searching for this swear by cleaning it once a month with vinegar. I will do that with the next one I get if this one doesn't work. They just fill it with vinegar to the fill line and let it go until it runs out. Only downfall, house smells like a pickle factory.
I was reading the reviews on Amazon - apparently this happens a lot with the new ones, something about them not using salt anymore??? I don't know, but they were the shit in the 90s. They were the only things that gave me super-awesome-show-choir hair.

Yup, I've had several of the red-and-white ones that are kind of bean-shaped conk out on me in about a year. My current one is several years old and still doing okay, though.
My first one was the tall, pink cyclinder one, and that thing was amazing. The little prong that holds the roller broke off, but I'd just set them over the opening and they still steamed. Otherwise it was indestructible.
I think I threw it out because I figured the new ones had to be just as good, and I've regretted it ever since!
