Has anyone dyed wool, hated the color and tried to dye it again with a similar but darker color?
I got some wool interlock to make DS some longies. I used Brilliant Kelly Green, thinking it would be bright and pretty but it turned out to be just bright. Like neon.
He's mostly going to sleep in the longies, so it's not a huge deal if I can't re-dye it, but I'm thinking about trying to re-dye the wool with Emerald green before making the longies. Has anyone done this? Any words of advice?
Sure- just be very gentle and know that felting is more likely to happen, if you didn't get any the first time around. I'd go with the stovetop over a washer, no temp shocks (really wait for the dye bath to cool off- don't pull the wool out until it has).
I was sure you'd know the answer cmeon. I almost just paged you.
Thanks. I think I will try again. I purposefully felted it before dyeing it, so now I just have to make sure it doesn't felt too much more so that I don't end up short on fabric for the longies.
My other option is to keep it the way it is. I pulled the fabric out again today and it's not as terrible as I initially thought. Hmmm...
I did it and it looks much better! Phew...glad DS will be able to wear his longies out without looking like he's going to an 80s party. I'll post comparison pictures later.
