I still have not received AF and am now 4 days late but decided to start temping for the upcoming cycle that I fully expected to start last Friday.
How important is it to test at the same exact time everyday? I test every weekday at 7:20 when I wake up but on Sat and Sun I slept until 9 and temped right when I woke up. Is this not a good idea?
Should I be using a BBT thermometer? I just used a regular one and then heard about the BBT ones.
You can get a bbt at any ol' drugstore or Walmart.
I temp at the same time each day, within an hour. If its off much more than that it effects my temps. For the weekends when I sleep later, I have my alarm set for the same time as the rest of the week. I barely wake up, shove the thermometer in my mouth, scribble down the temp on a piece of paper, and promptly go back to sleep. It's become such a habit that it doesn't really interrupt my sleep much. Sometimes I don't even remember temping except for that I have that paper showing me that I did.
I found that if I tempted after having at least 8 hours of semi deep sleep it didn't really matter when I temped. It always appeared somewhat consistent.
I don't think you need a BBT. I have a regular Reli-On from WM. So much of the TTC info is from the '80s and '90s before digital thermometers were $5 at any pharmacy. BBTs go out to two decimal places - that's a level of detail I don't care about. Supposedly, digital thermometers also skip every other decimal place - .3, .5, .7. I think this is outdated info. My cheapie counts all numbers and I see a clear shift and pattern every month.
I got a bbt at target that works just fine. I don't set an alarm to temp, but I wake up around the same time (within 1-1.5 hours) every day, including weekends. My temperature is usually a little higher on days where I sleep in, but not anywhere dramatic enough that the o temp soft pattern hasn't been obvious.
