I do feel kind of bad for their kid, as I bet she would be more into bright colors and macaroni ornaments but whatev.
I'm not doing a 'kid' friendly tree necessarily. Just the normal red, silver, glass, white ornaments I've always done with white lights. *shrug* Nothing that screams "I HAVE A TODDLER!" Maybe I'm misunerstanding your statement, but it made me roll my eyes a little.
I like it! Different but not weird. It's a cool spin on ombre/gradient/whatever the hell you want to call it. I kind of agree it needs another pink color in the middle, but it's fine.
And any tree is toddler friendly. Mine likes any shiny bulb and lights. I didn't do a toddler friendly tree either. I mean, I put her ornaments on it, but otherwise, what's the point. My bulbs and snowflakes are non breakable so she can still touch to her heart content. Toddler friendly doesn't always have to mean made by a toddler.
And let's not attack this tree. Remember the paint chip disaster? Anything is better than that.
I like this tree. Definitely better than their paint strips one. My tree is "toddler friendly", but not toddler crafts. Yay for shatterproof ornaments. He loves just looking at the lights.
The more I look at it the more I like it. At first I was confused, but I can't see the gradient on my screen...it looks like the top half is white and the bottom half is hot pink, with nothing in between. If it fades to pale pink in real life, that makes it better.

I like.
I understand for the blog, it is worth putting money into a different tree every year. In real life, I can't imagine spending the money (and the waste, unless you do it all secondhand) of a different tree every year.
Ours is hodgepodge. Someday if I ever have a huge house, I will do two trees so that one can be fancy and the other can be art projects. My kids are on a "make ornaments" bender and make about ten new ornaments every day. Most are random scraps of paper with string tied on. Oh well, they are only young once!

I went to their blog, and I think the first photo they posted there shows the gradient much better.
Now that I've somewhat complimented them, I have to criticize them. I only tend to skim their blog every now and then to see what they're doing (partly to see if I still dislike it and partly because their blog is so huge and I like to keep up on internet trends) and I have to say that I really hate when they do the "we're so unique" type posts. They really aren't terribly unique (especially considering what they post) but they seem to pat themselves on the back for being super unique. I do have to give them some props for their book. I don't care to read it, but it looks from their tour posts that it's HUGE.
I really like it too---it's an interesting idea and I feel like it still gives the tree a chance to be homey & real for their family, but yet a designed tree as well.

Mine is golden retriever tail and kitty paw proof too--plastic shatterproof "glass ball" ornaments around the bottom!

Yeah,my tree has tons of breakable ornaments on it. big deal...she drops one, I sweep it up. So far so good. I don't get the judgement of them for having a "nice" tree when they have a kid. Since when are parents not allowed to have nice things? Mine looks all themey and fancy....I don't think my kid is suffering.

Though I'm not always a fan of their design choices, I do like this year's tree. However if I did this to ours, my husband would give my color scheme the skeptical side-eye.

I think I want to have little trees for the boys in their room for their ornaments that they pick every year (or I pick for them) because I'm OCD and I want a pretty family room tree. I realize I'm crazy, though, so that should help a little?

That sounds freaking awesome!
Re: YHL having a small sentimental tree: I don't read YHL so I only know what I see here. I think that's the third time I posted this. I'm not a fan so I don't click. I have but they aren't really my style.
Okay awesome and not crazy. Thank goodness lol. Monkey already claimed our old fake tree (which is tiny) so I'll just buy one for Baby W in a few years.
I think it's very pretty, but I prefer the hodge podge trees with random ornaments, colored lights, etc. I remember my BFF growing up always had this beautifully made up tree with gold and red balls and long velvet ribbons placed perfectly. I thought it was so boring. My style is more eclectic, though.

To be fair, it looks like the light pink, white, silver and some of those awful DIY red paint bulbs are from years prior. They probably didn't have to buy too much this year. At least they're trying to reuse stuff every once in a while.
