The place I was interviewing at told me they'd be making their decision on November 27th. I haven't heard anything, so I assume that I was not their top candidate, and I am trying to write it off. But it's not working.
So would you send them an email to see what's up? Or would you continue to obsess and check your email/phone every three minutes until you get the (presumably bad) news?
I'd probably wait until 1 week later (ie. 12/4) before emailing. I think a week is enough time to not seem too eager.
And yes, I'd obsessively check my email and phone until then. No advice on how to deal with that! Sorry, I hope they are just checking references or something!
I'd wait a week as well. And 11/27 may be a guideline. With the Thanksgiving holiday timing may have changed a few days here or there. But then I'd contact them and reiterate your interest.

Thanks, all. I just sent her a note this morning. They did check two of my references a couple of weeks ago, right around the time they let me know they'd be making a decision on the 27th. So we'll see, though I am pretty sure I know the answer. I just want to be put out of my misery already!

I know! I remember when your references being called meant you were a shoe-in. But in recent months, at least three other people I know have had their references called, but no offer. It's bizarre.
They called two of references (both former co-workers/friends). They did not, however, call my boss. (I asked them to let me know when/if they planned to contact her, but told her anyway.) Which is why I think this isn't happening. But jeesh, this has been dragging on forever - my first interview was on Halloween! Stupid universities and their impossibly slow timelines.

Update: I heard back from her just now. I'm "still in consideration," and they hope to get back to me in the next week. So, you know, no help at all. I suspect they're negotiating with whomever their final candidate is, and that's the hold up.
And Rock, I would prefer to stay where I am, for a whole host of reasons. But if something good and comparable in pay came along somewhere else, I'd take it. But the "comparable in pay" part seems to be the sticking point, as I'm learning the hard way.
