Mine: I'm tired of playing ref between Little Geek and the cats. I've resigned myself to the fact that he's going to have to learn the hard way since I'm tired of refereeing and he doesn't listen anyway. They're all very patient with him but one of these days they aren't going to be in the mood for his shenanigans.
I don't know how my sister hasn't murdered her two youngest kids. They're so. fucking. annoying. They're too close in age, 13 and 11.5. They do nothing but pester the shit out of each other, and when you tell them to knock it the fuck off, the youngest one cries like you just punched her in the face, and the older one cops an attitude like he's King Shit.
I lost it on him the other night. We were sitting at the dinner table, eating our usual family dinner. Neither of them wanted what we were eating, and we have limited seating at the table, so we ask that if they're not going to eat with the family, they not take up a seat at the table.
The youngest sits in a chair. The older one shoves her out of the chair and sits down. Youngest proceeds to whining and shoving him, he starts shoving back.
So I told them again to go in the living room, because I'd like to eat my damn food in peace. Youngest got up, no problem. The older continues to sit in the chair, while someone with a plate of food in their hand doesn't have a chair. I told him to get up, and he stomps off, literally saying "oh, whatever! Whatever!"
I put my fork down, got out of my chair, and got in his face. I'd had more than enough bullshit, and I wasn't about to let him get away with being disrespectful.
The more I think about it, the more I realize that my sister is allowing her children to be disrespectful assholes, and now I'm feeling judgy. She didn't say a single word through the entire episode.
KMW, you need to get her a copy of 123 Magic - it works wonders. That and "Love & Logic" have been life savers in this house on curbing that kind of nonsense. I realize I'm not dealing with those particular ages, but it might help.
KMW...do you have the option of never having them over? LOL That would be my plan.
I wish. Unfortunately, it's not my house. I really enjoy spending time with my family, but 2 of her 3 kids make me stabby. Her oldest is 17, and she's just ready to get out of the house.
