ETA Apparently I can't think. I used the wrong expression so I fixed it! oooopppsss
I lurk on Got Pg occasionally to see if I can glean wisdom, and they have a post today about CD and I'm fascinated. I thought I'd steal their topic and ask --horse well before the cart over here--if anyone has any thoughts on cloth diapering?
I didn't want to infuse their post with my empty womb comments
ME: I hope to. I hope to start with bio-degrades for like the first couple of months, and then switch to cloth almost 100%. I hope I can handle it!
REASON: The environment. It saves some money over time, but I think they idea of adding to landfills when I can try and avoid it kinda makes me feel like shit. I will be a SAHM though, so I realize this is something I can potentially do with ease compared to a mom who goes back to work. (And they are cute!)
Thoughts?
(And sorry I stole this topic GP2, like I said, I feel like, kinda dumb posting in that thread when I'm very obviously un-pregnant)
I am torn on this. I have to admit that I would need to do more research on how to deal with CDs...you know, after removal, how to clean and such. My initial thought is that I would like to CD for the same reason as you Wine, to save money and not fill the landfills.
With that being said, my DH may be the stay at home one for a while (unless his job changes before then) and I guess then it would be up to if he is willing handle the extra laundry. WIll definitely be a topic of conversation for us soon!

I CD'd L for about the first year. CDs are adorable, cheaper in the long run, and environmentally better. They are supremely easy if they are exclusively breastfeed, before solids because BF poop is water soluable. No scrapping poop required.
I slowly moved to sposies as he ate more and more food, pooped a lot, and I just got lazy about scraping poop and doing laundry. It's not like it was hard, it truly was me just being lazy. Sometimes I miss his cute tushy in a CD.
I will probably CD the next baby, for at least as long as I did L. I like to think I would do it longer since I'll be a sahm and should concentrate more on not being a lazy bum.

And about the poop in the washer... You infant is going to have more poop on his clothes/sheets due to blowout poopsplosions than you can imagine. You will be washing plenty of poop in that washer, I promise! :-D
We will be cloth diapering. It was a decision we made several years ago. Recently we've also had several friends that have had babies and they too decided to cloth diaper. For us it's equally about saving money and limiting our environmental impact. It makes me sick to think of us contributing thousands of diapers to the landfill over the life of our children. We will occasionally use disposables when traveling and such, but most of the time they will be in cloth diapers.

i'm the queen of cart before horse. If I had a dollar for everytime I've said "I'm going to do this when I have kids" "I will be like this when I'm pregnant", etc. I would have 2 million freaking dollars.
I'd love to CD, and hope to at least part time. With daycare, I can't say for sure that we will do it, but I want to.

I tried it, but I really didn't like it. I hated having to carry around a wet bag. They made it hard for clothes to fit. Plus I don't have first floor laundry anymore. I don't plan on using them with #2.

Yeah, that was definitely a negative. The CDs take up more room in the diaper bag, and when you change a diaper, you don't get to throw one in the garbage making the bag lighter. Nope, into the wet bag and back into diaper bag.
Most daycares around here refuse or are hesitant to CD, laundry is not on the same floor as bedrooms, we will both be working full time, and I am definitely lazy.
I was CD'd as a baby. (I was born in a big city with CD services.) I plan to CD, too. I expect we'll be in a major metropolitan area where there are services, so the ease, the cost (even with the service, it's still cheaper than disposables), and the environment make it a no brainer for me. Even if we're somewhere without a service, I'll CD - I can't stomach the idea of my child's diapers lasting 300+ years in a landfill.
I thought about CDing but then realized I would have to carry around dirty diapers in a wet bag. I also will be working full time and CDing seems to require more time and effort so we plan to use disposables.
I'm in a major city and I'm sure we have CD services around here, but I'm not sure. Is it cheaper than disposable diapers if you're using a service? Does anybody know?
And, w/o a service is not an option for me. I live in an apartment building with laundry six floors down and it's $4.00 per load and I'm lazy as shit when it comes to laundry.
