My deadbeat sibling just got fired from his second job in less than two years. Long story short, my mom shared with me that he is getting unemployment. I asked what was his long term's plan was. He never graduated high school and I don't see playing Mr. Mom for the rest of his life. Mom said that he told her thanks to Obama he can claim unemployment for nine years.
Nine years!
This is the same sibling that is vocal about being a Republican and constantly posts anti Obama crap on his Facebook.
SO my question is this - does anyone know if it is true that someone in the State of Florida can file for unemployment for nine years??

No. I asked her that too. I said YEARS??? I asked a co-worker and she said she thinks it is two years.
It is none of my business and I really don't care. I just find it ironic that he is forever talking crap about people abusing goverment assistance and then he turns around and tell my mom he can file unemployment for nine years.

One of my tenants has been on unemployement for 2 years (in FL), but it's getting gradually phased out (which means I'm also in the process of evicting her for non payment). She had no plan for getting employment during these years, and used the time to have her 5th child (in a 2 bed/1bath apt).
I have no idea what the actual length you can have unemployment for.
I believe the maximum at one point (recently, in this recession) was 99 weeks, but I think that was discontinued. I think normally the max is 26 weeks.
