I always said "Oh, 8 hours of sleep is plenty". But lately, if I get to bed by 9 or so - I've found that I can EASILY sleep 9 or 10 hours. This happened last night and I've felt good today. REALLY good. Not the usual run down feeling I get in the afternoon.
But this only happens when my almost 4 year old decides to sleep late. He gets up early? I'm up early. And this still means 8 hours of sleep. But I'm dragging, yawning, etc.
Darnit. I feel good, but I don't want to NEED that much sleep. It's usually not possible to get.
I'm sure I would after that! DH and I are so cranky if we get less than 7-8 hours of sleep. I don't know how we'll do it if we ever decided to have a child.

I rarely sleep through the night. I generally sleep for 2-3 hours, then I'm up for about 30 minutes, lather, rinse, repeat. I have to go to bed around 9ish if I'm going to get anywhere near 8 hours of sleep. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen often either. I'm always tired.
Before the electric lightbulb was invented, people normally got around 10 hours of sleep a night (it was too dark in the house to do anything else). Instead of 8, we probably really need 10 hours of sleep a night.
