I think your plan is good. I had a VBAC and was really happy, but I would have been fine with a c. I just wanted to have a healthy baby and to be healthy myself.

right now we have a 12 day trip planned for July when DD is 15 months old. It's too long and we are modifying. I just can't wrap my head around being gone for that long. I think we're going to do 7-8 days instead.

We went to Kauai in November 2006 for our honeymoon. It was fine. It rains, sure, but other than that it was great. I would rec staying in the south of the island at that time as the north shore beaches are usually rougher in the winter.

We're taking the infant seat on our trip next week. I think it will be much easier since we can do the seatbelt installation. I have not ever taken an infant seat on a plane, but I think it will be fine.
We would be going without the kids, so no extra vaccines for them. We will get typhoid and Hep A for sure. I'm still deciding about the anti-malarials because I may still be breastfeeding.

Oh. And are you talking about going this May and waiting to book until April? You might be cutting it close on hotel reservations and at rentals, but just keep an eye on where you want to stay and make sure they aren't selling out.
Hotel reccs:
Maui- Westin Ka'napali is great for kids. They even have a bus you can take into lahaina and to the mall.
Kauai- grand Hyatt is amazing, but there are other great places too.

We've done both Maui and Kauai with DS. He loves the beach, so it's a win. Our favorite island is Kauai, but we're headed to Maui in 2 weeks.
Which island you choose should depend on what you want to do. Relax, hang out on the beach, go to a farmers market and look at waterfalls? Kauai. Add better food and more touristy things, Maui. Add Vegas type Waikiki and traffic, Oahu.
I wouldn't so big island with a kid because it is so much driving. It's a really big island.

Death is but crossing the world, as friends do the seas; they live in one another still. For they must needs be present, that love and live in that which is omnipresent. In this divine glass, they see face to face; and their converse is free, as well as pure. This is the comfort of friends, that though they may be said to die, yet their friendship and society are, in the best sense, ever present, because immortal. (William Penn, More Fruits of Solitude)
