I was just reading something about how Mr. Wrigley refused to install lights on the field for night play and that the Cubs were the last MLB team in America to do so (1988). Apparently, Mr. Wrigley didn't want to because he believed doing so would cause the neighborhood surrounding the ball field to deteriorate.
Well, I've never been near a stadium that wasn't in a pretty gritty area, but I guess it's a chicken and egg question. So how's the area around Wrigley Field? Was it full of lovely homes that are now drug havens because there are night lights?
I've been to a couple games. My cousin actually lives in Wrigleyville - and loves it! He paid a very high price for a tiny little condo, basically just for the location.
They explain it well so I won't re-type. Some of the bad areas referenced in that post (like 35th and State) are minutes from US Cellular Field (where the Sox play).
Wrigley Field is located on the north side, in a much more affluent area.

And people rag on the south, damn. That makes any race "tension" here look like a picnic on a spring day. I put tension in quotes because things only get irritated here in a conference room setting where people have been brought together to talk about race relations. Chicago even makes our rough urban areas look like happy playgrounds. Wow.
But, anyways, not at all the point of my post Just trying to see if Mr. Wrigley was off his rocker for thinking that lights = crime, and he was.
