Wondering what would be a good affordable option for basement flooring? Currently it's linoleum tile (perhaps with asbestos), covered by carpet that DH has mostly ripped up. Options we've considered is: laying new carpet (annoying IMO since now we're spending money to fix something that wasn't really broken...), laying linoleum or vinyl....something? I am not sure what I should be looking for here. Budget is small. One space will be arts/crafts studio space for DH (painter) so carpet isn't ideal...which is why we wanted it gone in the 1st place. Easy to maintain/clean a plus. Thanks!
I have industrial grade vinyl in my basement. All that means is there is padding on back so it is warmer and softer and the vinyl is thicker than standard. I didnt want carpet in case of water issues tile is too cold for us and we couldnt do hardwood because of warping and damp issues. It wasnt the cheapest but wasnt the worst. Ours shades of gray black and tan swirls and looks like tile.
I'd probably opt to stain or paint the concrete and be done with it. My parents painted theirs and put down some area rugs, and it's nice - and very low maintenance.
We have pink flowered linoleum in half the basement, so there's that option too. (Obviously it predated our ownership!)
I have Allure vinyl plank flooring in my kitchen. It does fine with moisture and it's indestructible. It's also cheap and easy to install.
If this is the stuff that looks like wood, then yes!
If we had stayed in our old house we would have put it in the whole basement. Our contractor said it is amazing- easy to install, looks great (not like real wood but as good as laminate) and easy to keep clean. Plus if the basement ever floods, it isn't ruined.
Eta: we also had linoleum asbestos tiles underneath. The previous owners tried to remove them, so they were halfway ripped out. He quit bc they were impossible to remove. Ben if they come up easy, the rule of thumb for anything with asbestos is to just leave it in place, don't remove it unless you absolutely have to.
We have the Allure Ultra which is 100% waterproof. It is more expensive than the regular Allure but the waterproof factor and lifetime warranty sold us. I love it. It looks great and is warmer than the ceramic tile we also have in our basement.
