Sorry for all the job questions! I was invited in for an "informal lunch" with 2 hiring managers at a company I applied to. Networking is awesome, my friend at the company helped set this up. The thing is, I don't think I'll really have time to change into a suit before the lunch and then back into my casual clothes to go back to work. I also obviously don't want my coworkers to see me change, so if I try to change, I'm doing it in the car, which is a pain. Do you think I need to wear a suit? It is over lunch at the office. If I wear a suit I will be overdressed for sure. But on the other hand this will be the first time they meet me. My alternative is to wear a dressed up version of what I wear to work: so khakis and a nice blouse + sweater. (I wear jeans to work.)
Personally, I would wear a dress and a blazer and ditch the jacket back at the office.
Hmmm... I never wear dresses to work, but I do have a nice herringbone patterned skirt that is kind of dressy. Thanks guys! I just needed permission that I don't have to wear a suit!
Either jenny's suggestion, or I would wear nice dark pants and a nice top, and throw a jacket on before you get to lunch. That avoids changing in the car and you still look fairly casual for your current job.
