I am pregnant and supposed to get a flu shot. They are now also recommending the pertussis booster while pregnant to pass along the immunity to the fetus. Anyway, my OB won't give vaccines. Not even a flu shot! I am not sure where to get this - I don't have a primary care doc. Do I just go to walgreens? I was thinking of calling my pediatrician and begging them to give me the shots even though I am not a kid, lol. I find it weird that pregnant women are supposed to get certain vaccines but can't get them from their main doc (the OB). Does your OB give vaccines?
Mine did not because they were midwives and they weren't allowed. I for the flu shot from the pharmacy. They would not give me pertussis because they didn't feel comfortable doing it while I was pregnant.
My OB does, but they also let us know for family members that they recommend get vaccines, such as TDaP, you can go to the health dept and get it as well.
Yes and no. My OBGN rec the flu shot while I was pregnant. I turned it down but they do give it there. She did rec the Tdap but I would have had to try to find it elsewhere. I have not done it yet and my LO is almost 2.
I got the flu shot with both pregnancies right around 30 weeks (I had Fall babies) and within a week or two went into early labor --- I am convinced the flu shot makes my body contract. I will not be getting the flu shot with the next pregnancy.
I actually had a ton of problems getting this done. My OB said I'd get the TDaP after delivery when I'd asked her about the CDC rec, but the following week, the ultrasound doc said I should get the TDaP shot before 34 weeks. So I went back to the OB and she was like "ok" (literally, this is what she said after I'd protested that I wanted the TDaP before delivery. But they give no vaccines there.
I then went to CVS and the pharmacist refused to give me the shot without a prescription. Ugh. Since my OB barely wanted me to even get it done, I got in touch with a family friend who is a pediatrician (and will be baby's dr), who said I should get it before delivery. So I went to her office and they did it.
My OB's office doesn't do vaccines either! She said it's because the practice is only OBGYN and they expect everyone to have a primary care physician. Well, I don't, so I went thru the hassle of getting a shot at my DD's pedi's office. It wasn't much of a big deal because DD needed one anyway so we went at the same time, but I was still surprised my OB didn't stock vaccines.
I got my flu shot at work. The nurses at my OB's office have asked me at every visit if I've had the shot though, so I'm sure they'll give it to me if I hadn't.
My OB's office didn't offer either shot. I ended up getting the flu shot through work and the TDaP through my primary care physician.
OP, I didn't have a primary care physician previously either, but I figured I should find one before my kiddo starts bringing home lots of new germs. I just called a practice and asked if the doctor could give me the booster when I had my "new patient" appointment.
Most drugs stores around me hold clinics, check with them. My OB wont do vaccines though, you have to see your regular doctor. I would prob look just for a regular though, OB will only do so much in most situations.
My OB does not offer vaccines, either. I got Tdap in the hospital after birth (I had recently had pertussis, so we wanted to wait a bit to administer the vaccine) and the flu shot at Target. Your health dept may offer them as well as any local pharmacies. I know the Tdap is now offered along side the flu shot for most local pharmacies here.

My OB gives the flu shot. I got tdap in the hospital after DD was born. I probably should have had it earlier, but my OB and I both forgot about it. I don't think he does that one in office though.
ETA: DH got his flu shot last year from my OB too at the same time I had mine done. They said they never had a father ask before, but they had no problem doing it.
I didn't ask at mine but I got my flu shot at work. I got my tdap in the hospital after birth which I was comfortable with given the most recent research.
Mine offers the flu shot. He doesn't do TDAP right now because the recommendation just changed and he is not entirely comfortable with the research done on it yet enough to recommend it to his own patients. Another OB in the same practice does give TDAP so it's a doctor-by-doctor thing I guess.
