After 8 weeks of bedrest and medications for PTL and IC, I got to go back to work at 36 weeks. O arrived 1 week later at 37 weeks after less than an hour of actually knowing I was in labor. 6 pounds 5 ounces, 20 inches, and healthy. His 2 big brothers think he is great (so far). Eventually I'll figure out how to post a picture.
Really long version below, for those who like reading birth stories:
It was another whirlwind L&D experience. My typical PTL contractions actually slowed down after stopping the PTL meds. The day he was born the irritable uterus feelings were about the same, but that evening I just didn't feel quite right in general. I was nauseated and antsy, but couldn't figure out why. My H was urging me to go to the hospital "just to get checked" (he was super nervous about baby being born at home due to my previous 2 labors being 1hr 39min and 1hr 8min). I thought he was being ridiculous since nothing else would have tipped me off that I was in labor and I hadn't felt "off" with my previous 2 deliveries. Then my mom sent me a random message asking if we wanted her to come spend the night "just in case." It was odd, but my mom seems to have a sixth sense about stuff like this. So I went in (by myself).
A quick check by the nurse determined that I would be staying (6cm, 100% effaced, +1-2 station; was 3cm a few days prior in the clinic) since I was GBS positive and they wanted to make sure I had enough time to get the full 4 hour minimum of antibiotics. Contractions still weren't anything unusual for me. I called H who headed in while our wonderful neighbors stayed at our house until my mom could get there to be with our other 2 (sleeping) DSs. The nurse asked what my pain control plan was. I joked with her that I'd never had enough time in labor before to be asked that question, so I'd have to think about it. My water broke a few minutes later (painful, like getting snapped with a large rubber band, and loud...strange). Oh, crap. I knew what was coming next. Called H again (who was thankfully in the hospital lobby already) and told him to run.
The nurses quickly got me from triage to a delivery room. One asked if I wanted to walk around or use a birthing ball for a while. I think H and I both laughed out loud at her as I climbed into the bed. With the next contraction I had the unmistakable pushing feeling. Was 10cm dilated and here comes baby. A few contractions later (and one particularly painful pause where he was crowning at the end of a contraction so I just had to sit there and wait out the tearing feeling until the next one) and O was born, 31 minutes after my water broke and we actually knew I was in labor.
We had to stay for just under 48 hours to monitor O since I didn't have time for any of the antibiotics while in labor. It's really nice (and hectic) to be home now. O is very cuddly and really sleepy but is nursing well so far. H thanks me several times a day for going in that night to get checked. We totally would have been one of those 'baby unintentionally born at home' or 'on the side of the road' stories otherwise. Haha.
Looking forward to all the upcoming births on this board and hearing good news about future BFPs for those TTC.
