When I hear the word "emerald," I think of something much richer than what I see on that color chip. That pic from Home Alone is spot on. It's kind of diseased. KWIM?
I LOVE emerald, but I have mixed feelings about this. I'm starting to understand why people on Apartment Therapy complain about things becoming too trendy. You no longer look very original. I've wanted an emerald green bedroom, and now I'll look like everyone else. LOL (FYI: I wanted to paint the entire room emerald.)
I am happy that there will be more gorgeous green clothing.
I love emerald. That is one the colors I have been using as an accessory color in my house, and almost painted my room as (I went with a lighter green)
I agree that I see emerald as a deeper green than the color pictured. I do like the color chip though as I painted a dresser a similar color last year.
I don't know if I see entire rooms a deep green but I love it as an accessory color!
I love green in all the brighter and deeper shades but that one isn't for me. It's okay as an accent. That's also more minty to me or something. I picture emerald as something deeper and richer.
I am not sure how I feel about it, but my first thought was that it will make my really nice Noritake glassware from the 80s (that I haven't been using but kind of wanted to bring out again) look fresh. ;p
After reading the Pantone article, I am kind of interested to see what JCP and Sephora do with the color.

They were talking about the new color on the Today Show and said that Sephora will be doing lots of green eyeshadows this spring.
LOL! Must ask, what is your favorite color? Hopefully they will pick yours next year!
And pitterbull! I love the shade of the green in your pins! I don't dislike the color but I don't have any desire for it in any form or shape. It looks too christmas green to me in the color chip.
What I'm seeing is much more an accent color and certainly not what I consider emerald. Emerald should be much richer, like what pitterbull posted, which I love.
Yikes everyone's house is going to look like Easter this year, Benjamin Moore's color of the year is "lemon sorbet"- which looks like the aged stucco on my grandma's house.
Hmm well based on these reactions maybe I'm OK to paint an entire room a real emerald. LOL. Not too many people interested.
lol, yeah it doesn't look like you're going to have a bunch of copycats here. I don't have any emerald rooms pinned right now, but I think it could be amazing. As long as it isn't too Christmas/hunter green.

Yeah, it would be a little difficult to pick the perfect color. I don't think DH would be on board with it anyway.

It just makes me wonder that if we all think of emerald as a deep jewel tone, but the "REAL" definition of it is more like the color of the year version.

This is probably accurate. In the pics pitterbull posted, for example, the considers those emerald. The last two, to me, are a solid kelly. So perception and what we've been taught are throwing us off? Either way, I don't like Pantone's emerald.
