It just makes me wonder that if we all think of emerald as a deep jewel tone, but the "REAL" definition of it is more like the color of the year version.
This is probably accurate. In the pics pitterbull posted, for example, the considers those emerald. The last two, to me, are a solid kelly. So perception and what we've been taught are throwing us off? Either way, I don't like Pantone's emerald.
That's a great point. I think of Kelly as brighter with more yellow in it than emerald and you're right that the last two pics I posted are more Kelly. I'm still standing by my version of emerald though instead of Pantone's washed out version.

I knew it would be green. I've been seeing rich dark greens everywhere! I even bought a super dark green cardigan and love it. I like the emerald just used sparingly. Lets hope hunter green doesn't come back for awhile.

My grandmother has an emerald ring that most of us would call kelly green. Maybe that's the problem - we expect the word emerald to look like emeralds. There are NO emeralds the color of the Pantone chip, at least as it appears on my screen. The chip on my screen reminds me of Crayola color Jungle Green, which was my fave color as a kid.
As far as emerald the color of real emeralds, I LOVE. I've been snapping up green things everywhere - on black friday, I bought 2 green blouses and a green sweater. I bought a green scarf yesterday. As for decor, would I ever use paint that color? No, I just can't do that much green, not my thing. But I use lots of fresh green accents every spring and summer.
That's not emerald. I love emeralds. My engagement ring is an emerald, but that dull, algae-puddle shade is not emerald. Real emerald is a great color for a home.
my authentic emerald earrings are about the color of the pantone shade, but will admit that when i think emerald, i think the color pitterbull shared in her pix.
i'm a fiend for green, so it is hard for me to find one i don't like. that said, i would still only do this one in accents, couldn't imagine an entire room painted in that shade and enjoying it.
I love Emerald in jewelry (it's my birthstone, so I have a lot of it), but not as a wall color. I could get behind it as an accent color in certain rooms, though.
