I see tutorials for stuff like this all the time, and they look really cool in pictures, but I just can't quite convince myself that they don't look like crap IRL.
Bwahaha! Sorry wawa I'm sure that looks like crap IRL. This is one of those things your non-pregnant self will look at and think "What was I thinking?"
That reminds me of the plastic spoon roses my grandma makes us. She heats them in a toaster oven and molds them into petals that she hot glues together. ...Remember a while back when we had that worst wedding present conversation and I "won" with my black and white spoon rose present.
Oh there is no way in hell I'd be making this...no time for spoon mirrors these days. I was just curious if I was being mean thinking that it'd look like spoons.

I admit to doing the toilet paper roll wall art. It's just filling the space over our bed until we find something permanent. I just couldn't look at that empty wall anymore. It looks okay, but it's not something I'd ever put on a wall where anyone we had over could see it. I also ORBed it to try and class it up a bit. Sherry would be proud.

Yeah I see very few of those projects I love. Same with DIY wreaths. All I think is "you wasted yarn on that?" I'm horrible. I know. It's like those mirrors everyone was making out of paint sticks for awhile, WTH? to that as well. Can't possibly look good in real life.
I have don't have time for arts and crafts either so that sways my opinion. The only time I find those sorts of things cute is when Child does them at daycare. Then at least there's a story to the tackiness.
Stuff like this always seems like it would be a decent idea but it always looks crappy in real life. The thing I have learned about myself is that even if it doesn't look like spoons I will always know it's spoons so I'll never love it. Plus crap like that usually takes forever to DIY.
Those f'in paint stick mirrors made Home Depot put the paint sticks below the counter. I can't tell you how many times I've used a screw driver to stir paint b/c HD forgot to give me a stick.

Not mine:
does it look like TP rolls though?
It does to me because I know it's TP rolls, but H likes it (surprisingly) and showed one of his friends who didn't believe it was TP rolls until he got really close to it.

I did the sunburst mirror out of cereal boxes and it looked amazing. People did not believe it was cereal boxes. But yeah, I think that spoon mirror would look exactly like a bunch of spoons glued to a mirror. But plastic spoons are cheap, you could always try it and report back to us.
I just don't know who has this kind of time in the life. Even if someone does have the time, WHY? I dunno, that's my take on lots of crafting - I just don't get it. So many projects cost more in materials than they do to buy ready-made.
I do have to say I didn't know this was spoons til you told me. Looks cool in photos, esp with the ombre paint.

Pic? Haven't heard of this project.
My Pinterest is, not surprisingly, craft-free, so I've never seen a cereal mirror or a spoon mirror or a spoon rose.

I will warn you that my opinion on this sort of thing is pretty cynical. I just can' t get on board with any of this stuff - spoon art, paint chip art, paint stir stick mirrors, clothespin light fixtures. While the TP roll thing is NMS it at least uses stuff you would buy anyway, but making "art" out of stuff you took "free" from the paint store is taking advantage IMO and it probably won't be long before we will be charged for paint chips and stir sticks because of people abusing the free factor. And it just can't look that good URL. Told ya I was cynical!

We used to have discussions about "stealing" paint chips and stir sticks for projects back on TN. I figured it was just a matter of time before the stores got smart.
I have a plastic stir stick that has holes in it that my mom gave me. She found another one in her stash b/c I used to look at hers longingly. It is super old school from sears, but I lovee it. I pray it never breaks.

i haven't done the crafts that are taking advantage of free samples, either, for the same reason cited. i would just as soon find alternatives or pay for inexpensive materials to make something, rather than do something like that.

WDYT?
This picture looks like spoons to me, so irl would for sure...
I can get on board with cleverly repurposed crafts, but most of what I see on pinterest and in decorating-blog land is not.
I don't see the point in DIYing stuff out of household junk just because you can.
Ditto ditto.
When I was a kid, my moms friends were all into making these plastic fork fans. Oh they were hideous with their lace and fake pearl beads. This is too reminiscent.
Sometimes I think it isn't the materials or the craft itself, but the skill and artistry of the person doing it that makes the the biggest difference.
There are always contests for designers and artists, making uncommon things from common items, and they make breathtaking things out of them. Then people decide to copy it and it turns into a bad craft project.
