Am I bat shit crazy for considering this? I have a 10 year old bulldog currently, 1 year old GSP..and there is this really nice 5 year old GSP at the rescue, that I would like to consider adopting.
I already have 2, got the land, and such, would it be that much harder? My GSP runs my bully to the point of exhaustion, mind u it is towards the end of bully's lifespan, maybe another dog would help this issue? Dog is trained regular stuff, hunting, good around other animals..

We have three and almost adopted a 4th but didn't and am glad we stopped at three.
Vet bills are significant as they age. We have their yearly exams plus heart worm, flea meds, food and treats x3 plus any injuries or illness. Something to consider from a financial perspective. I love all three but I do make some sacrifices so they have the best care. Good luck!
We've agreed to no more than two because we don't want to be outnumbered. But adding a 5-year-old when you have a 10 and a 1 year old sounds like nice age spacing. The 5 year old will still want to play with the 1 year old, and it will probably take some of the burden off the 10 year old. Plus you won't have two in the late senior stage at once, and when your younger two reach ages 10 and 5, it's time for a puppy! (Ha ha.)
We have 3. Going from 2 to 3 was easier than 1 to 2 in my book. By the time we added #3 we had all the stuff we need for them all (leashes, bowls etc). Going out on my own with them is more of a challenge now, as I like to walk/run with them a lot. Mine are all over 60 lbs and the combination of the 3 outweigh me!
Financially is where we noticed the biggest change. We go through food faster, boarding them when we go on trips is more expensive, and of course vet bills. But we wouldn't change adopting the 3rd little guy. Also, my job has lessened some of that financial stuff. I currently work at a kennel, and can take them to work with me and board for free. Gotta love the perks
My family thought, and still thinks we were crazy to take on another dog (mostly because we have 2 cats too!). But we don't care. We can financially afford it and give them the exercise, love and attention they need, so why not give them a good home? Don't worry about what other people think. Do what is best for your family.
haha Home visit next week! I selected two dogs from the GSP rescue, finger crossed! Whats another one? And gumby ur right, who cares? If they think I am a crazy dog person they dont have to visit simple as that.
It all really depends on the dog you select. We had two and when we brought home our first foster I remember wanting to die. He was well behaved but sooooo needy emotionally. I can't explain the relief when we found him his forever home. Our second foster just fit into our home like he was supposed to be here all along. Our biggest hit has been financially and extra time spent cleanin/vacuuming.
ETA-we kept our second foster. Before him we were always "capped at 2 dogs".
Well it we started off we will only have 1 dog, then DH creeped in another,. He keeps telling me its my fault, that I did this to me. haha. The last dog we got was a GSP in May, just under a year at that point and though he has been challenging (very energetic), big love bug and we love taking him out and about.
