The nonprofit I work with has partnered with another group to raise money for a project. I agreed to be the point of contact for the community fundraiser that is being planned.
The program lead asked me what contact info I wanted on the flier that is being distributed city-wide.
NOTE: I do not WORK for the nonprofit. I am a volunteer.
I said I wasn't sure that I was comfortable putting my cell number on the flier. She agreed and suggested my generic organizational gmail account. I agreed and made sure she had it written down correctly.
A couple days later she told me the fliers were being produced and I again made sure she had my correct email address.
She did.
I just saw the flier this morning and my fucking cell phone number is on it. My PERSONAL fucking cell number.
The flier is not going to select individuals. It is literally being distributed to thousands of homes/residents and businesses throughout this effing city.
I am LIVID.
I sent a text to the program lead that said "My cell phone number is on the event fliers. This is not what I agreed to."
I'm waiting for a response. I have not assigned blame and I have not contacted anyone with the partner group. I want to follow my chain to get this resolved.
Even if you worked for them it would be completely inappropriate to put your personal cell phone number on there (unless they paid for it). I would be very tempted to stop volunteering for them. Sure you can change your cell phone number, but that is such a pain in the ass!
I wouldn't change your number just yet. I'd wait and see how many calls you get. If you get an unmanagable number, I'd change your greeting to something like: "Hi, you've reached MB. If you are calling about X event, please call Project Manager at XXX"
Frustrating, extremely, uncalled for, yes, but changing your number is going a bit too far, I think.

yes. and make that alternative number the personal cell of the dickhead who made this mistake.
oh yeah, and GUESS WHO is paying your cell phone bill the next couple months? NOT YOU.
apalettepassion.wordpress.com/ WHO IS BONQUIQUI!?!?!?!??!
"I was thinking about getting off on demand, but it sounds like I should be glad that I didn't"
Ugh, I work for a non-profit, and I would still never consent to have my personal number on something like that. I'm so sorry this is happening to you!

I think I just scared the project lead.
I just called her, she said she was just about to call me.
I asked if she got my text, she said she did and then said "All I can do is say I'm sorry. I had no control over what went on the flier."
"You gave them my contact information."
"Yes, and you said that was ok to do."
"Yes, I said you could give my contact info to the organizers (three people) in case they needed to reach me but that I did not want my number on the fliers. I wanted my email address on the fliers."
"I asked them to not put your number on the fliers. I'm not sure what can be done at this point."
"I am pissed off. That is my PERSONAL PHONE NUMBER. __Nonprofit__ does not pay for my phone. I want all of the fliers that have not yet been distributed to be destroyed."
"I'll start making calls."
I was entirely calm and scary cool during this entire conversation.

She just texted me again and said "I take full responsibility for this so I will pay for you getting your number changed."
I responded with "I am not changing my phone number. I have had this number for over ten years and it is the only number anyone has to get in touch with me. What's done is done."
All she texted back was "ok"
I think she really is shitting her pants.
And who knows, maybe I won't get ANY phone calls. But the point is, I was specific with what I wanted on the flier and my decision was either forgotten, overlooked, or just outright changed because someone decided they wanted to do what they wanted to do.
On the "bright side," we just had a meeting of a committee that I am on, and they put home phone numbers of board members on flyers (with permission, of course) and one of the committee members said that they have never been called.
You are justifiable in your rage though. Is this the same non-profit that has been jerking you around?
