I don't really know the ins and outs of timeshares and what they cost but I can't see myself ever buying one. I like going to knew places when I go on vacation. I don't want to go to the same place every year.

Short version of a long story, community property state means community debt so the one my ex bought I ended up with in the divorce because he bought it with a loan and I refused to pay the loan if I didn't get the "assets". If I didn't pay for it,my good credit would be screwed because it would count against me regardless if it being his responsibility per the divorce decree had I forced him to take the debt. Given that he was unemployed and irresponsible, I'd rather be stuck with it and able to control the mess rather than being screwed without seeing it coming.
I have looked into them, not only not interested going same place, I don't always get time off especially the same time every year. For us wouldnt be worth it.
I don't really "get" timeshares. Part of the fun of yearly vacations is picking a new place to visit. Unless I got a lot more time off, I wouldn't want to go to the same place every year.
FIL has 2. He was going to "give" us one that he never uses. But in helping try to go on a trip once w/ them using their timeshare- trying to find a place to "swap" out, etc, was such a pain - it made the decision for us that we did NOT want the timeshare they were going to give us.

We don't and probably wouldn't, but my parents have one with Disney and they love it. They don't have to go every year because they can gift or trade their "points" and its transferable to other destinations (they have stayed in DC and NYC on "disney points").
