How many copies of a birth certificate?

I need to go get DS' birth certificate this week. How many copies did you get? They're $10 a piece. I'm thinking 2 or 3 but don't know how many we'll really need.

We'll be getting two. One for home and one for the safety deposit box. Eventually he'll need his own and I'll want a stamped one of my own.

I got 3, mostly because after the drive I had to make and the horribly long line I waited in, I new I was never, ever coming back to get another one. LOL

We got 2. Only ever needed 1 so far, but it's nice to have 2... just in case.

Only 1. We have a safe at home so we keep it in there.

We got 2. One for the safe, and another to send with the passport application (even though they send it back, I'm paranoid).

One. It stays in the safe. We made an unofficial copy to travel with

we have one for each kid. I have never needed to give one to anyone - just copies or show it, etc. my kids don't have passports and i don't forsee them needing them any time soon- but if we had to send them in i'd just make copies - and get new copies made if needed.

Two. Always good to have a spare of these things, because they can take weeks to get another of.

My parents never had (or lost) my birth certificate issued from the state. They had a "birth certificate" from the hospital but it wasn't accepted to enroll me in school in FL when we moved and countless other things.

I would get at least 2 copies just to ensure you have one as a back up. It was difficult to get a new copy living over 1,200 miles away.

Thank you for posting this! It was on our "to do" list, and we'd been putting it off. I finally looked up how to get them and am sending my request out today. I got 2 so that we would have an extra.

We ordered 2 so that way if we had to submit one (for example when applying for Passports) we had another one on hand.

My kids are 6 and 9 and I've never needed more than the one I have for each. The only time I ever had to surrender them was for their passports, and they came back right away so it wasn't a problem.
