I have been looking for a babysitter on Care.com. Although I know that people of all ages need extra income, I cannot bring myself to hire someone my age or older.
The only teenaged babysitter we ever used was the daughter of our regular evening babysitter. The mom was sick and we had a wedding to go to, so no chance to reschedule.
It went okay, but I really prefer older babysitters.
Is this supposed to be a general confession thread or just the OP's confession?
I felt the same way when I first started hiring babysitters on a regular basis. I didn't think I'd feel comfortable with someone who was older than me. But the great thing about hiring someone older is that they're more likely to have experience with their own kids, they're more likely to take the job seriously, and they tend to be far less flakey. My last three college or high school age girls quit without even giving me a heads up.
I agree on older babysitters. Our last two nannies have been in their 40s and 50s..just more reliable and won't be on their phone or computer the whole time IMO!
I hate juggling appointments and it makes it even harder when you have kids!! My stupid dentist office did not have me down on their schedule this morning even though I had a card filled out with the appt info that the hygienist gave me...grrr! They wanted me to come back at 2pm today. I told them no. I work too far and I was already going in late this morning. And of course they can't work me in over the two weeks in Dec and Jan I'm off. So now I have to go on a Fri in Jan and get the nanny to come or have DH stay home.
I am so in favor of older sitters. Our nanny is in her 60s and it's awesome. I never have to worry about her paying more attention to her cell phone than to my daughter.
We have one teenage sitter we like a lot but she will be going to college next year. Boo!
