I couldn't get comfortable sitting - I had like back cramps and was just squirmy trying to stretch it and find a good position. My water broke three hours later.
My water didn't gush. I probably had a slow leak. The night before I had her I wasn't feeling very well and my drive to work I had a couple small contractions. It was pretty much BAM major pain for me.
With DS1, I had lots of contractions during the last couple weeks of my pregnancy. One day I contracted on and off all day at work and felt generally awful and was certain I would go into labor by the next day. Instead, I found myself at work again, and I felt great, had a ton of energy, and got a bunch of stuff done. I was bummed that I hadn't gone into labor. I went home after billing a solid 12 hours, went to sleep, then woke up with a painful contraction at 4am and was certain it was the real thing by 8am. So I guess I had a burst of energy?
With DS2, I contracted on and off all day, and timed them a few times, but they were never consistent. By that evening, I was pretty sure that, consistent contractions or not, I was in labor. Things picked up overnight, and we went to the hospital around 5am and had DS2 in our arms by lunch time.
Both times, my water didn't break until I was pushing.

Contractions started (and were steady 1-2 minutes every 5 minutes) for about 7 hours before my water broke. Prior to the contractions starting (by 2-3 hours), I stood up from the couch and DS literally dropped into place. The top of my belly got really soft/squishy.
