Are your babies already getting sick from daycare? Winter hasn't even started and B's already had RSV (which he spent 6 days in the hospital for) and he's coughing really badly again! Since he's a preemie (2 months early), every cough is more worrisome than babies that were born full-term so we end up at the peds and often the peds will send us to the ER. It's frustrating and exhausting!
DH and I made the decision last night to pull him from daycare for a couple of months so that he can get healthier and stronger (he's currently only 11 pounds... he was born a little over 2 pounds). My MIL is going to be watching him full-time, which is not going to be easy (long commute to shuttle him back and forth, working around her schedule/doctor's appointments, etc) but we're going to make it work. I hate that we have to pull him out of daycare, but he's just getting too sick.
Is everyone's daycare babies getting sick so early in the season? I'm hoping this is normal daycare stuff, because we really love where B goes and would hate to have to consider other options! The place always seems very clean, but the babies are always sick and cough on one another (DH witnessed that happen yesterday) because they're too young to know any better.

DS has been sick nonstop since starting daycare. I don't think there even is a season. But babies are gross and couch and lick stuff and you can't really stop them. It is very very normal! A pain but normal.
Remember their immune systems are just starting up so they sadly have to experience everything before it gets better.
DS has had colds and a few random things (Hand Foot and Mouth, roseola) since he started daycare. I know he got HFM from a friend, though. Our daycare is really small (4 kids + her 2, and she's actually only got 3 kids right now) which I think helps minimize the diseases going through.
Anytime kids mix, they spread disease. The more kids, the more odds someone is sick.
Hand Foot and Mouth made the rounds right before he started (July). We actually had to keep him out an extra week due to that as the health professional that came in to teach them about coxsackie said no preemies! Thankfully we managed to avoid that one so far!
It sucks. I feel like there so much good he gets out of daycare... but the constant sickness is making us all sick and crazy with worry!
DS has been sick for the last 6 weeks. I think we're finally coming out of it now. I've taken him in twice to make sure his lungs are clear. Thank goodness for flovent and singulair. They are doing their jobs.
Also, babies get sick when they are around each other. There is really nothing the DC can do about it.

Ditto all of this.
For us it wasn't too bad from 9w - 3.5mo because he was in the newborn room. The babies were less mobile & it was easier to keep things out of their mouth.
When DD started daycare, she was constantly sick. After 6-9 mos in daycare, she rarely got sick again. The last time she was sick, I believe she actually got it from H.
My kids have runny noses/coughs almost constantly and get the occasional stomach bug. Last year they both had RSV. They were premature, but just barely so it isn't that much of a concern for us.
Since your child was premature, it might be best to do just what you're doing.

DD has basically been sick constantly since starting daycare almost 4 months ago. I just keep reminding myself that she has to go through this to build her immune system, but it still sucks.
DS made it through his first two months fine at daycare and then for the past 2 months has been sick almost non-stop, even if its just with a cold. I think its just par for the course.
Ugh I feel like I am too poor to justify having a nanny but the thought of her being sick all the time really makes me want to go that route.
Nannies do not help IMO. My friend had a nanny her kid was still sick all the time because the nanny took him to kid events.
We actually did get a nanny for this reason, and I think it did make a difference. DD was 4 weeks early, and born during the first big H1N1 breakout. She couldn't get a vax, and the only appt I could get for it was 2 weeks after she was born (2 weeks before she should have been).
We kept her out of kid stuff, restaurants, even stores unless we wore her until she was over 6 months old. She'd see family and friends that weren't sick, but she wasn't at Gymboree classes or anything. Some may think it was extreme, but it was worth it to us. With a history of bad asthma in our family, as well as her early arrival, we decided it worked best for us. After that, we slowly started introducing her to kids stuff.
She turned 3 this fall, and she's a healthy kid in general. She has pneumonia now, but that's the first real sickness since starting preschool in September.
DD was born about a month early and I have been able to stay home until January when she'll be 6 months old. I know she'll get sick, but I'm hoping that by going with an in home provider that she'll be exposed to fewer germs than the center that has 60+ kids.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with a baby on inhalers I find since daycare started its just germs non-stop.
My Gp swears that when DS is about 3 years old he will stop getting sick.

We did a nanny share (3-4 kids) until DD was 18 months. Sure, she'd get the occasional cold, but it was NOTHING like the perpetual runny nose she has now that she's in montessori school. IMO, there is a big difference between having a nanny and going to a center. Our nanny avoided the museums and malls Dec-March too, so I think that helped us as well.

we had Flovent last winter too. ughhh.
3?? 3?? I was hoping for 2. ugh.
Hahaha he did say that the SAHM's will hate me when my kid seriously doesnt get sick in kindergarten and theirs misses every other week. I was having a guilty working mom moment so he was trying to make me feel better I think. lol. He probably tells the SAHMs how lucky they are that their kid doesn't get sick all winter like those daycare babies

DS is 3.5, still getting sick all the time. He didn't start daycare until 15 months, though. So maybe by the time Kindergarten comes around, we'll be okay. :/
Not a daycare mom, but I do have a preemie. Our neos told us no daycare for 2 years. We have a nanny and I think it has absolutely cut down on illness. My 15 month old has only had 1 mild cold. I think keeping him out of daycare is the right decision. Our neos said to be very careful for 2 years and then we could start exposing him to things like a regular child. The whole "you need to build up their immune systems" thing isn't good for preemies until they are much older (per our docs).
DD's cousin who is 2 weeks older is not in daycare and she has been sick ten times more than DD who is in daycare, so I honestly think it varies by the child and their immune systems. She has gotten colds in the middle of the summer, the time of year doesn't seem to matter. I do know in our area there is a bad resptory virus going around which DD did get, but she was better in 2 weeks
I think nannies and sahms have more options for not taking kids to events at the slightest sign of illness or when something is running rampant. Dd goes out all of the time, but bc she's around other kids who aren't as sick as often, not as much is passed. For example, the flu is going crazy around here right now (schools/preschools with over 25 per ill ) and I have the ability to keep her out of preschool until it passes. I most definitely dread K.
