I am having the hardest time deciding where to stop the backsplash.
Is this spot, do we stop at the end of the cabinet? Or go to a little bit before the end of the countertop?
In this spot do we end under the plate rack/cabinet? It would leave a lot of the countertop without backsplash? Or do we go to almost the end of the countertop?
OR for both, should it just be on the back wall and not the side walls?

Mmmm.... I think stopping at the back wall or stopping just short of the end of the counter would be the best options, but if stopping short of the counter would leave that light switch in the first pic half surrounded by tile stop at the back wall (does that make sense?)

Stopping at the end of the countertop would completely surround the light switch. That would be awkward if it didn't. LOL.

Ok so in that case I'd stop at the edge of the counter, provided the tile you've chosen has a nice bullnose (or otherwise "finished" looking) edge piece- whatever it's called lol, I have no experience with tile! I feel like that would look more "functional"
going up from the counter top, i would go all the way to the bottom of the cabinet. going out from the back wall, i would would to the end of the counter top (just before the rounding of the edge, ykwim?).
I posted something similar to this when we started doing our tile. Similar to the top pic, we ended up aligning the backsplash with the edge of the top cabinets. It leaves about 2 inches of counter space that is not tiled, but I didn't want to have to but the tile up against a light switch we have in that area.
Similar to the 2nd picture, we ran the tile with the upper cabinets and didn't round the corner. We didn't tile the side walls.

This is what we decided to do. At least at first. We are just running the tile with the upper cabinets and then will decide if we want to round the corner or not.
