I know about "drink lots of fluids", but someone in starry's thread talked about a GALLON a day. Is that what you mean when you say drink "lots"? I try to drink 1 or 2 cups every time I nurse or pump...
I've just always drank to thirst and never had an issue. I didn't have to pump, though, which I think makes a difference. I could never drink a gallon - every time I've tried to push too much water, it makes me feel sick.

Right now I'm EPing due to a preemie. But yeah, I cannot possibly drink a gallon.

I've actually heard from an LC that drinking too much water can be bad for your supply. I always drank so I wasn't thirsty and so my urine was clear/very pale.

I drank 2-3L per day when I was nursing/pumping. I could always tell by my output if I needed to drink more. I found that I drank more using larger bottles, so 1L vs 16oz. In sure it was all in my head but it worked for me.

I drink to thirst but I also try to pay more attention so I don't get busy & forget. On a typical day I drink 4-5 12oz glasses of water at work & 2-3 16oz bottles at home.
The gallon person was me. Everyone is different, so maybe I'm just at the upper end of the scale. A gallon sounds like a lot, but c7's "24oz water bottle four or five times a day" is a gallon (24 x 5 = 120oz, a gallon is 128oz). The upper end of A&S's amount is 108oz. I notice a supply dip if I drink less, so I apparently just need a lot.
