We usually get a decent check from my inlaws for Christmas and I'm thinking this year I'd like to spend on it having our masterbedroom/bath/closet painted.
Room does get a lot of light.
I do know I want it to be all the same color. It's not worth PIPing because it's a big square box area and all white.
For reference: The rest of my house is a lot of black and white with silver, red and lime accents. My office is sunny yellow, kitchen has a red backsplash that runs into the LR wall, Rubes' room is a cinnamon tan (I kind of hate, but it works great with the trim, carpet and is very calming), my guest rooms are a true gray and a bright aqua. One of my bathrooms is bright lime and the other two are white.
Right now my top contenders are the same gray as the guest room or a much lighter, paler green, 3 cards over on the paint scale of the green bathroom.
I am open to anything but purple. Doesn't have to coordinate with much. Our Master is kind of off all by itself.
I some people are over the whole gray thing. But we painted our master gray this summer and I LOVE it. We went with SW Functional Gray or was it Requisite... (the bathroom is one shade the bedroom the other and I can't remember) Either way I think it's a perfect bedroom color and you can accent with pretty much any colors you want.

This why I lean to gray too. My gray guestroom is like my second fave paint color in the house and definitely my favorite neutral. I like cooler colors so the tans and beiges don't do a lot for me..so gray is perfect.
I do know I want something not overly neon, but still fun..as I have tendency towards heavily patterned bedding and I love to change it up.
In our room we ended up with somewhat neutral bedding but added some pops of orange and a pale blue. Shameful confession I think I have at least a little bit of orange in every room in my house.

That's not shameful..it's good style. There's a touch of red and lime in every room of house.
So you have orange throughout the house, that is design. Designers call that giving a house a cohesive look with color. I have done the same with blue and green. Every room in our house has green and blue in it. Color is not the only way to give a house a cohesive, it is just one of the popular ways and the one we chose.
Our bedroom is a medium blue called Behr's Ocean Ridge. I pulled the color from our bedding because the bedding is our inspiration for that room. To figure out the bedrooms, I laid out a bunch of paint samples overs the quilts/comforters to select the colors. The Ocean Ridge made both our winter bedding and summer bedding pop in the Master bedroom.
I used the same method for the guest room and that is painted a pale green called Mother Nature. I am not sure if you are using bedding as your inspiration, but it worked for me.

I hate hate hate dark rooms, so unless it is a sunroom I tend towards pretty light paint colors. We painted our marketer bedroom in our old house a really pretty medium blue color. I like soothing blue/green colors in bedrooms.
However, I had a heck of a time finding bedding to match. In fact, I never did, we had mismatched bedding the whole time we lived in the houses, lol. Because of that, I might lean more neutral/cool, so probably grey, next time. On the other hand, I find grey boring, so I might pick bedding first, then pick paint.
We stick with neutrals, because our dogs seem to be great at destroying bedding. Plus we switch out bedding for the seasons.
Previously, we had dark espresso brown and then later a warm beige. This time around I think we're going with a light gray (Mindful Gray by Sherwin Williams). Trendy, maybe, but it's only paint
I would do a dark gray or even a navy blue. For me id do purple but you said that's out
This exactly. I love our purple bedroom, it's so dark and cozy. Purple is my obsessive color though, it's all over my house. It did take forever to find the right shade for the walls though. If I couldn't do purple, I'd go navy.
we painted ours SW ancient marble. it is a great neutral with a hint of green. it is a very light color, so if you wanted something more cozy, it might not be what you are looking for. our room had wainscotting all around the bottom in white, so this was just enough on top to bring interest and the little bit of green i desired b/c i like green so much, but wanted to stay somewhat neutral.
My bedroom is SW Dark Knight. It reads anywhere from a deep teal to a dark navy depending on the time of day. The room is big and it gets a lot of light so it can carry the color. I love it.
