She's their first rescue, we've always had Bassetts, but from bybs because we didn't know any better. They had to put our 14 year old girl to sleep a month ago and the other Bassett had trouble adjusting to being the only dog.
It took some prodding to get them to really look at rescue because they were so turned off by the applications and requirements. I told them that most of it was to weed out bad owners and that they'd have no trouble being approved. They applied for Charlie on Wednesday,and adopted her today!
They think 4-6 years but dont know for sure since she was a stray (which to me means she was dumped, since she looks pretty purebred to me) before ending up in the shelter.
The red eyes are normal for a Bassett, the red you're seeing is the inside of her saggy lower lids.
