I mentioned in the other thread that I travel quite a bit for work. On average it is about 7 days every month. We're in our slow season right now but it will pick up come Feb and will stay busy through next Nov(ish). My first trip will be about 8 weeks PP(if I'm back at work).
My question is has anyone been able to EBF while traveling? I'm hoping to be able to pump and nurse while on mat leave to save up a stock pile but then what about pumping while I'm gone? Can I bring a cooler so I can bring the milk home with me? I'd hate to pump all the time to keep supply up and the milk be wasted, KWIM? Any tips? Tricks? Advice?
I traveled for 3.5 weeks when DD was 6 months old. I was home for the weekends. I recommend trying to stay in a hotel with a kitchette just for the full size fridge with freezer.
I froze all my milk before bringing it through securitybased on my internet research and TSA told me that they prefer it frozen as then they don't have to test every bag.
I used a soft sided carrier with both regular ice packs and bags of ice-both went through security just fine. I bagged all the milk in storage bags and then put them in gallon size freezer bags. The combination of the ice and the frozen breastmilk kept everything frozen for the 12 hours of travel time.
For me, the hardest thing was finding a place to pump in the airport. Some airports had a bench with a plug in the restroom. I would just use a cover and pump there. Otherwise, I'd use the family bathrooms.
