I don't like the rind on camembert. I've never even had brie, but I assume I wouldn't like that rind either. I want to get some fancy cheeses for J and I for New Year's.
i never eat the rind. i don't give half a rat's ass if this makes me uncivilized. while not eating it, i make sure to hold my pinky up so that i look like a lady.

Yay! I was kind of embarrassed about it and I have a girl's night wine and cheese thing in January with a bunch of girls I don't know, lol.
But DIGGING into the cheese on the serving plate around the rind is gross and rude, lol (at a party). Just cut off a piece and cut off the rind on your own plate.
(I have a friend who digs and it always pisses me off, lol)
I don't eat the rind either, but I agree that with brie you should bake it with the rind. If it's just you and J, I think scooping around the rind is permissible, but I agree with ninja that it is bad form at a party!
Our Whole Foods sells this orange cranberry goat cheese that I love and is always a hit at parties. Although I wouldn't do something like that with baked brie and jelly.
I don't mind it cold on sandwiches or whatever, but I don't like it on baked brie. It's always too hard to cut it with the wimpy little knife that's intended to spread the brie, and it prevents what you're baking it with from oozing into the melty cheese. I at least cut the top off to bake it.
Really the best solution is mini baked brie, with pieces of brie rolled up in phyllo or puff pastry with other yummy things.
