I've been struggling with the fact that E sleeps really well at night, but fights naps hard during the day. It finally dawned on me a few days ago that the room is totally dark at night, and during the day he's distracted by all the things he sees in the daylight. So last week I tried putting him in our windowless bathroom for a nap. He was out within minutes. He's in there again right now; again, fell asleep super quickly. I can't believe it took me this long to make this connection. For the long term, I'll be getting blackout curtains for his room. Obviously bathroom naps are not a long-term solution, but for now... this works great. Especially since his routine is going to be turned upside down in a few weeks anyway when he starts day care.
DS has been a terrible napper for the past few months. Our new solution is for me to nurse him a bit to wind him down, and then DH goes in and lies down with him and holds him down until he falls asleep. He's usually out within 5 minutes now, whereas when we were doing the normal "put in the crib" thing it was taking hours of crying. The only downside is it's a two parent job, and he won't just go to sleep for me.
