I just think it's ironic that women fight so hard to be treated as and seen as equals in the military, but they should be able to exempt from uniform regulations because they are breastfeeding?
I mean, procreation is a natural, beautiful thing, but I highly doubt using that as an excuse for having sex in uniform in a public place would fly.

Maybe they should start, it might lower the military divorce rate Of course they'd have to take photos and put up posters to ensure moral is boosted and prove they support marriage and procreation.
ETA, Disclaimer. It's just a joke, no one is comparing sex and bfing.

The Army forced me to go to a class solely devoted to breastfeeding being more beneficial to the infant than formula. It totally changed my mind from formula to breastmilk, which I wasn't exactly happy about.
I think the pictures may be crossing a line, but only because most of the public would think so. If the majority of people would relax about breasts, the photos wouldn't be an issue. Those of you all up in arms, you aren't helping. I'm with Ojo here. Should they take their babies into the nasty ass bathrooms on base? Or maybe a port a john? Even the bathrooms in CQ suck dick. Eff that noise.
I'll get behind the idea that the military should have a nursing uniform, like the pregnancy uniform. Then maybe things could be more discreet and you pearl clutchers would stop squawking. But they don't.
I'm not pearl clutchy about it at all. I don't see the point of these types of pictures, but I'm not arguing whether or not someone should be able to BF or where. I don't think that BF should be an automatic exception to uniform regs. Especially for someone like Ojo who knows the regs inside and out and is offended by someone talking on a cell phone in uniform, I just think it's hypocritical to say one reg violation is more acceptable than another.
Ditto Beachy. I NIP with both of my girls, just never in uniform. And my base had a room set up to pump, that wasn't a bathroom, so that was a non issue. Had I brought my babe to work I also could have nursed there.
Why is it pearl clutching to have respect for my uniform?
Look, I have the utmost respect for the uniform. I even side with Stan on regulation issues. However, if the military wants to push bf'ing, which THEY DO, then everyone else needs to relax. You included. Had I needed to bf in uniform, I probably would have done it behind closed doors, simply because I'm not comfortable like that. But if a colleague had more gumption than I, more power to her. Shit's hard enough without judgment coming from every which way.

Would you change before nursing then change again after? What about pumping?
If the military came out and promoted those pictures on their website and their Facebook pages or whatever and said that are promoting BF however possible, and that there uniform regs were exempt, then sure I'm all for it. But to my knowledge that hasn't happened. Supposedly this was for a publicity thing for the military, but this was the first I had heard of that.

I'm not sure what your saying? I pumped in uniform, in private. Not at a park. I did not take photos of myself pumping with my uniform in disarray, nor did I post any images, tasteful or no, of me in my messed up uniform and post them on the interwebz.

To be more sanctimonious than Ojo is quite a feat indeed. Bravo.
I don't care about NIP in uniform. I'm more "concerned" with them using the uniform to make a statement. I'd be side eyeing a woman in uniform modeling a can of formula as well.

Oh, I see.
Ojo has standards that she backs up with firmly held beliefs. She has espoused them in this thread. Your beliefs are sanctimonious and have no real standing other than the parroted stock value they may have gained. YWIA.
Oso speaks like a hypocrite and feminist. You can't be pissed at someone for talking on the phone yet not care if someone else has their shirt open. Im sorry if that "belief" hurts your feelings.

LOL. My feelings aren't hurt. Trust.
I get the irritation with the uniform being used incorrectly, seriously. The show border wars pisses me off because of their liberal use of the uniform.
I just think you are missing the bigger picture here. Yes, the pictures were incendiary. But they were a part of a bigger project, they weren't a military expose.
It's not such a a big deal, really. Just because some of you people are making it into one.
I don't think it's a big deal. It's a slow night, there's nothing else going on. I just thought it was an interesting topic until it got all " pearls clutchy".
Like I think I said earlier though, I had plenty of support bfing and pumping while I was in. So maybe if I didn't have the support I'd be more " yay" about the whole photo/ poster thing.

Well...we are agreeing to disagree? Or agree somewhat? Either way I think we both respect the uniform, as do a lot of people here. So cheers to that
I think the point Ojo is making is that she's anti people violating the AFIs and that there's no AFI regarding bfing. I don't have a problem with this if there's not a MARADMIN/MCO prohibiting it. Men can push a hot pink stroller in uniform but they couldn't carry an umbrella until recently. The MC has allowances for parenting your kids in uniforms even if they are very strict about their uniforms in general. And I think we can all agree the MC is darn strict about their uniforms.
And Margot, I literally lol'd thanks to you in this thread.
