Ideas for casual Xmas eve

DH wants super casual (his side of the family)....he's requesting a 6ft hero (Italian sub) which I'm fine with if that's what he wants.

What would you guys serve with it? (I mean, aside from typical sandwich sides and fixins). Baked ziti? Pot of spaghetti snd meatballs? I'm at a loss!

I always do french onion soup on Christmas Eve. You could do some fancier apps like bacon wrapped scallops or shrimp, stuffed mushrooms, mini crabcakes, etc.

This is what we do for our Christmas Eve.

2 3' Italian subs
1 tray sausage and peppers
Buffalo chicken dip
Spinach Dip
Cheese & Crackers
Veggie Tray
Shrimp
pepperoni, salami, proscuitto wrapped around sticks of cheese
mini quiches
caprese salad
Beer/wine/liquor, non-alcholic beverages
Christmas cookies, oreo truffles, cupcakes
and then whatever our guests bring.

With that, I would do caeser salad with tortellini in it, meatballs (and sausage) in sauce, cheese tray and olives
