I saw this at my library yesterday. It looks like a great guide.
And I do mean newbies, like, the kind of total cluelessness we used to see on the nest where the person was so completely lost and hopeless we'd just say, "oh, sweetie, maybe you should hire a pro" because days of internet consulting couldn't help.
It starts with about 10 pages of affirmation - "you can do this!" "I'll bring the knowledge, you bring your can-do spirit!" Got on my nerves more than a little, but I'm not the author's intended audience - it's definitely meant for someone who's terrified. She has the homeowner make a list of the tasks they need to do in the space and then rank those tasks so they're focused when making decisions. She goes through how to select and analyze an inspiration picture, choose paint, arrange furniture. I mean, it's how to do everything about putting a room together, much of which we D&R'ers do instinctively but other people don't. The book's coffee table sized and 400 pages - it goes seriously into depth. If you know a new homeowner who's clueless, this would be a great gift!
