Do your stories take on a life of their own?

Or is it just me? Mine has dissolved into Welsh mythology and fantasy/teenage romance. I have no idea where that came from. I am still catching up on things re word count, but I'm getting there, almost 2K written today!

I'd heard of people saying how their stories took on a life of their own and kind of thought they were weird. But now I know what they are talking about! I'm glad it's happening though, otherwise I'd be stuck.

A lot of my stories end up taking on a life of their own. That's how you know it isn't forced. I love to see where they take me.
I still have no figured out the master plot of my story yet.

My story definitely is, but I'm really liking it. This NaNo thing is great, I've had writer's block for fiction for literally years and it's totally gone now. The creativity is flowing. Thanks for making this board and publicizing this!

I usually have a general idea for the background of the story, but as I get more involved and know the characters, things start to change because, it just doesn't fit that character anymore.
