2007: Started a fantasy story involving a female lead mending a splintered country. Came really close to meeting word limits, got sick, and ended up not finishing. This was as close as I've came to actually finishing the project. My computer from that time crashed and burned, and the manuscript was lost.
2008: Outlined a story where a group of mismatched people riding an elevator are sucked into an alternate universe. Started first chapter and abandoned it. It's probably for the best.
2009: Started a heartwarming story of a dog who rescues a girl from depression. Got halfway through, realized my plot had wandered out of control, abandoned the project.

2008: sword/sorcery tale, fictional world, political intrigue. 2009: Didn't do anything, wife was 8 months pregnant at the time. It would have been doom to attempt. 2010: Started (like less than 1000 words) a story about shadow people 2011: Couldn't think of a damn thing to put to paper.

I started one last year about a future society where some people have telekinetic powers, and the government was trying to exterminate them (lol, I didn't even realize how close it was to x-men until now). I got about 10k words written.
This year I'll probably write romance/erotic because they're easier and I'm not feeling creative enough to try another sci-fi. Or I'll write a future romance story in space!

2007: started a story kind of like the movie "The Game", but it was hard to weave everything together, so I didn't finish. 2008: romance, didn't finish. 2009: I actually did reach the goal. It was a story about a group of friends who decided to give one of each item in a charity Christmas catalog, and about a pastor in India who was able to share some of those gifts with needy families. It was very "chicken soup".
2010-2011: I was working on my MBA so I did not attempt. I am still thinking about this year. I have a 3 week old baby, so it might be a lost cause.

The only attempt I've made was 2009 and I completed it.
It was about a bartender/alcoholic young woman who was struggling with her best friend's unsolved murder from 8 years ago. She is actually fairly unlikable at the beginning, but her best friend's brother finds her and they go back to small town New Mexico to solve the crime.

I've done NaBloPoMo a couple of times but never NaNoWriMo. I'm actually contemplating it this year, but I don't know. I'm not sure I have the time to commit to it and I'm also not sure my idea is enough to sustain a piece that long.
My only was 2010, I completed it with 52k words a day early. It was a story about a girl who is given an inheritance, travels to Europe to learn about the cuisine, and opens a restaurant at home. There's a little romance, too. It was an easy write, just had to do some research on places in Europe. This year I'm going to do something much more challenging with a little suspense.
I attempted in 2010, and I won. But it was so stressful that I didn't try writing again for several months. And during that time period, I got pregnant. Last year I was dealing with newborn and divorce so that was a no go. This year, I am not going to officially join, but I'm going to work on my novel idea.

I absolutely LOVE how many of you either have no idea or haven't managed to complete in the past and yet come back to try again.
It's refreshing, honest and truly inspirational!
I lost my password to my account, but in the past I have done:
2007: Got about 30k into a story about a girl who discovers her family has been hiding a secret about her. Realised it was actually autobiographical, that it was keeping me from sleeping, that I really should go to therapy instead of writing at that point in time. So, I did, and it was great.
