Ice under snow and then 45 mph wind gusts and single digit windchill, so all the local schools closed and my boss said to call around 11am and see how the roads were before I decide to trek in since I do a lot of driving to drop off kids and get to work.
ALSO!!!!!! For those of you following the floor saga, some stain went down last night:

This is the first time it has snowed since 2010. We had 17 inches over Christmas eve night, though, so I was a little snowed out. Monkey is freaking out and won't stop asking if he can go out and play. Dude, it feels like 9 degrees outside and your only waterproof boots are rain boots AND at the other house.

H said it looked awful in person, which the first coat is supposed to, but I said "don't care, I'll live in a pretend world where it looks great now and great later!" I think we picked a good color to match the trim too. We'll have to get the name because there's some trim that will need to be repaired (it's all original to the house too).
LOL I was going to post the same thing! Snow day..or should I say Blizzard day since we're in a blizzard warning all day...and floor pictures. I love that color of floor with your stain! Good choice. Don't worry when the poly goes on it will look a lot better for your DH.
We have 14" so far but are expected to get 18". It started last night and won't end until late tonight. Then we have 35 mph winds with gusts expected up to 50 mph!
Those tree branches on the left aren't supposed to be anywhere near touching the ground but they are. And just for fun:
I was up very late last night sanding (w/pole sander and palm sander), vacuuming, tack clothing, and applying the last layer of poly! Took me 8 hours straight. 4 layers done on 800 sf and I did the last two completely by myself! Wohoo! The problem is we have to turn off the furnace while the poly dries to contain fumes and keep dust out so we spent the night sleeping in our basement with no heat. I just turned it back on at noon. Normally a snow would be fun but I had to wear a respirator all morning. On the bright side the last two layers of poly have turned out awesome!! Super smooth and lint/dust free finish...well as much as you can get site finished floors to be. Here are some pictures from after the second coat of poly:
Bedroom #1
Bedroom #2 ETA:Whoops this is after sanding not the actual poly'd color.
Master Bedroom
Master Closet
Hall. I'm trying to show the satin finish here. I love the finish. Just enough gloss to look nice but not so shinny you'll see every scratch and speck of dirt. Note the floor is much smoother now than it looks in this photo.

I need/want more snow pictures, ladies. Pretty please?
It's in the 50s here at the moment, and even though we're technically under a winter storm warning for the weekend, we won't get any snow here - it's only for higher elevations. *sigh*
You guys' (is that correct grammar?) version of a snow day is so funny to me! That's life every day here for 6 months of the year. I am a bit jealous to be honest.

LOL I'm glad I'm not the only one. A snow day here pretty much requires straight blizzard conditions, or severe ice storms, nothing less. That only applies to schools, too. I've never had a snow day as a working adult. Every school district could be closed, and I'd still be expected to drive into work.

Haha I had TWO Canadians point out that they don't "do" snow days. But for real, the city was crippled the year we had 17 inches over night. They did a 2 hour delay for the government offices here, but most of it was because of the wind. 45 mile an hour gusts were blowing that little bit of snow all around.
house, we used some kind of light cherry. It will look less orange once it's done, I think, but I really like it. It's a compromise, H wanted straight up dark red and I was like "um, no."

It wouldn't have been bad (because I wanted a dark brown color) but the rooms would have looked tiny with a super dark floor and light walls (except our room, which is dark gray, every other room is pretty light in their respective color spectrums) and the rooms aren't tiny in any way. Thankfully, the previous owners had my back there haha.
I am loving these floor and snow pictures! Fox those look incredible. They're so SMOOTH.
And I adore hickory. So different.
Thanks wawa! I was just walking around on them with a light to pick out any bits of crap that got suck in the finish while it's still workable. DH has already been loving walking on the last couple layers barefoot because I got them so smooth. There was a whole lot of sanding going on with 180 grit sandpaper specially made for poly with two types of grit so it doesn't clog as easily. The first layer was so rough in the master bedroom and closet I literally went over the whole room with a 4x4 square palm sander.
Fun! I love snow days and I wish there were a few in adult life. I want a random day off!
Canadians might not do snow days, but we certainly do god-awful-freezing-cold days. There were a few times in college when classes were cancelled and we were strongly advised to stay in our dorms because it was -45F outside.

You couldn't pay me to live where it gets -45 degrees. Hell, I sometimes don't want to live here and the coldest it has gotten was right around 10 degrees.
