Hi all!
I just moved to India to marry my Indian fiance (I'm American). I had been living with my parents back home (I was unemployed) and we had a dog, Radar, who is 14.5, four cat Mallory, Devlin, Ezra and Corwin. And I had my darling rat terrier Sophie, who is 9. But we couldn't afford to move her and it's complicated (documents and all) and plus I've heard horror stories of dogs dying in airplanes. I had adopted Sophie upon graduating college and intended her to be mine always, where as the rest are family pets, so I am so grieved to be without her.
Still, we decided I'd move but that maybe we'd get Sophie over later.
I've been in India for 3 weeks. I've already cried over Sophie four times. But while Sophie misses me, my parents tell me she's adjusting. After all, for her I disappeared but nothing else changed. She is very, very attached to me, but she has my parents, the other animals, and my sister comes and stays often and she LOVES her.
But since I'm a total pet person and I'm obviously not doing as well, I realized I need to get a pet. I can't work here legally until my FI and I have been married a year, and so I have plenty of time for one. We're living with his parents (which is socially normal here. We plan on moving out eventually, but it will be some time) and his mother loathes cats, so that's out. And I considered something like a guinea pig (we had them as children and his cousins have one now) but his mother is scared. But she likes dogs, and it's my dog I miss so badly.
There's an expat group here and a dog fostermom posted about a dog the week after I arrived so after discussing it with my FI I contacted her this week. We're hoping this weekend to go meet the four dogs she has and see if we click with any of them. She sent us profiles and pictures and I can see a case for each of them.
My mind is all a buzz and I just want to talk dog, and suddenly I noticed there was a pet forum here. Like I said, you can find me over on the international board a lot, but I haven't tried out any of the other boards.
So that's me. And hopefully soon I'll be telling you about my new dog!
