Ok, so no one at work knows I'm pregnant - didn't want to tell anyone until we knew what was going on.
I want my boss to be the first to know but she is out of the office literally until Jan 25 (back to back to back to back trips, some work related some personal).
I am going on a work trip to Hawaii Jan 5 and will be flying with 2 co-workers. I want co-workers to know before we go on that trip (long flight, incase anything happens, stuff like that....plus they'll find out anyway when I can't go through airport body scanner, don't drink, etc)
My boss is big at communicating with us via text & email. I am thinking of sending her an email giving the general overview of things and saying I would like to discuss it more when she's back in the office. I would then text her to let her know I sent an important email. Then once she reads it I would be able to tell co-workers.
Is this weird? It doesn't seem weird to me being that she is not a phone person so this seems more natural than calling her. I obviously would prefer to tell her in person but that's not an option at this point.
ETA: So I emailed my boss and texted her letting her know I sent her an email with news...she responded pretty quickly with "awesome news!" and then said "are you worried about flying? If you don't want to go on the trip I understand. I'm worried a long flight isn't good for a high-risk pregnancy"
OOPS! No, I definitely want to go! I told her though that I did talk about it in detail with my doctor and was told it was ok to go. So now all is good.
I think that sounds fine. I'm sure she'll be happy for you, but it's not like she REALLY cares THAT much that you'll hurt her feelings telling her in the most convenient way.
I have no idea who or when or how I'm telling people at work. I'm seriously considering just not telling. My work is weird right now.
I'd send the boss an email Wednesday of next week-then if you don't hear from her by Friday, send her a text or call. I'd tell your CWs that need to know right before the trip, then everyone else after.
You know her better than us. If I tried to email my boss he would just pick up the phone and call me back instead of writing back but if she's more of an email person an email is fine.

That's awesome! both about Hawaii and your bosses response.
I've pretty much decided I'm not officially telling work. They will eventually figure it out. I'm almost 16 weeks and I think I'm on the verge of really popping, but if they're to blind to figure that it its their problem

What about mat leave and coverage? You're never going to tell them?

Won't it be awkward not to tell the? They are going to notice at some point, and probably soon. And I agree with countthestars, what about leave? Don't you need to arrange that with our boss and company?
My issue right now is that I'm being so poorly managed, I'm not really sure who to tell. I'll eventually have to email the director's admin to find out who will be my contact while I'm out, but last time they replaced me with... no one. They don't need much notice to not do anything, so I could easily put it off until I'm big as a house.
