Today for the first time I had sort of some cramping in my right hamstring and right calf. I could still run, so not like side-of-the-road cramping, I just had to ease off and it made me nervous. I have a race (Chase Challenge) this Thurs.
I was running no farther or faster than normal. The only difference is that I wanted to try eating 1/2 a powerbar first because that's what I plan to do on Thurs. Sometimes my body stops running on its own and after a full day of teaching kids, I thought a powerbar might help. Normally I run on an empty stomach because it is 5am.
If anything (for me) that would contribute to abdominal cramping, not leg cramps. If it's hot where you are, you might need to really be conscious of keeping up your electrolytes and staying hydrated--especially if you run first thing in the AM.
