I have a ton- maybe 50ish? You probably won't wipe every time, but we also use them for wiping DD's face and hands (is that gross?) Plus, we stash extras at daycare, in the diaper bag, etc.
I love the cheap Circo baby washcloths.
ETA: sorry, missed the per diaper part. I probably only wipe 50% of the time, but I need 2 for a poopy diaper. So, figure 1 wipe per diaper change, and then lots of extras because you can never have too many wipes.
We use disposable wipes, but supplement with cloth for some particularly messy diapers, and to dry E off after changing a really wet one. I have a stash of about 36 diapers, which allows me to go up to four days before washing. If I wanted to be able to use all diapers/wipes before washing, I'd probably want the same number as diapers. With just pee diapers, I'll pat him dry and set the wipe aside to use again that day (also to pat dry). It goes in the hamper by the end of the day. Maybe this is weird, but it works for us.
For poop clean-ups, I take a dry wipe and squirt on some Mustela no-rinse cleanser to wipe.
We only use wipes for poopy diapers. I use cloth wipes until 6 months when we start solids, then disposable wipes from then on. When using cloth wipes, I prefer the Circo washcloths from Target. I think I have about 24 right now and that is plenty for us. We do wash about every 2 1/2 days while in the newborn diapers. Less often when my little one will be big enough for the pockets.
Oh - to wet them I keep them in an empty disposable wipes box (dry) and then squirt the top one with water when I need to use it. I have tried several other methods and brands of wipes before finding this system to work best for us.
We use disposable diapers, but DS is allergic to disposable wipes, so we use cloth wipes. I sprung for the babykicks organic wipes, I really like the two-sided aspect
I have 30, and it's just the right amount to do laundry every 2-3 days. I'm low (but not out) by day 3. I use 1 if a pee diaper is damp, so maybe 50% of pee diapers, and 1-2 for poopy diapers.
I use 1 wipe for pee, 2-3 for poop, but she only poops about once a day. I have about 50 wipes I believe.
This etsy seller makes my favorite wipes. They are rectangle shaped, not huge squares like most. Super soft and she can do custom colors. www.etsy.com/shop/TwoSweetPotatoes
I have about 36, but during newborn only had 24. I used on average 1-2 for poop, 0 for pee. I only got more for now because I use them for boogers as well.
