So my pittie, Zeke, was a rescue and from what the vet can tell, didn't receive adequate nutrition early in life. When we got him almost two years ago, his teeth were really yellow. The vet said nothing is rotten or anything in there (and continues to say that), and we've been working really hard to try to fix his icky teeth and breath. They're getting whiter, but slowly.
But no matter what we try, he has some of the worst breath I've ever smelt on a dog! We've tried brushing, bones, water additives, foams, and nothing helps keep his breath tolerable for more than an hour after using. These are all solutions our vet has recommended. We love Zeke to pieces and are willing to try anything. I feel like bad breath like his just isn't healthy or something, but the vet doesn't seem too concerned (but he doesn't have it blowing in his face at 7am every morning).
Does anybody here know of anything we haven't tried? Or are we going to have to put up with his stinky breath forever? Thanks!
FWIW, we switched to raw and our senior's teeth went from brown to white within a week an her breath is very fresh.
Zeke eats Blue Buffalo. He has a very sensitive tummy. We tried several foods, and this is the one he seems to like the best (and it doesn't give him an upset stomach).
How are his gums? I know that gingivitis can contribute to nasty breath.
On a different note, your Zeke looks very similar to my Kai.
His gums look fine. Normal color, never bleed. The vet says he might just be one of those dogs with bad breath. We've tried just about everything. We always tell people that the most dangerous parts of him are his breath and his gas. Haha.
