I have to bengal kittens (11 months), and they're running wild enough inside that I thought I might try starting to leash train them for summer walks outside.
Does anyone else here own bengals, and have you had success with this? Any recs on a harness brand?
I was not able to get my kitty to walk with me on the leash like a dog. He didn't mind the harness but just didn't want to follow. He'd just lay down if he tried to go that way and I tried to guide him this way with the leash. I just ended up getting a 20 ft leash and harnessed him to a pole in the backyard so he could be outside but not run off in the road or get out of the yard. Make sure the leash doesn't reach the fence at all or he could hang himself (neighbors dog did that and it was awful).
It's hard to find a harness a cat can't wiggle out of. Mine is fat so couldn't get out easily, but he still found a way sometimes. I stayed outside with him usually because of this.
Now we live in the country away from traffic, so he can just go outside by himself.
My friend has a bengal and i know she got him to randomly walk around on a harness.
my Maine Coon is leash trained, he just wears a collar, we put him on his leash and he chills outside...so do 2 of the other house cats (one was a stray we picked up the other is a sibling of his, another Coon)
my kitten Shiver likes to walk around outside on her harness and leash, but it's random where she goes. I haven't had a problem with her getting out of the harness. i picked up a harness i found at petsmart.

We have a cat that isn't confirmed to be a bengal, but looks like one, and he loooves to walk on a leash. We got him from a shelter, so for all I know he is (or else he's an american shorthair who likes the harness. whatever.) He wanted to go outside so badly that I thought it was worth a shot - just got a harness, strapped it on, and he was off like a shot. He doesn't walk like a dog, I pretty much follow him as he explores. Very easy and it helps him calm down at night.
