I found out the hard way today that they changed their return policy about 2 months ago. I haven't seen it talked about on here, but it's now no receipt, no return. No exceptions.
Guess I'm done shopping there when I'm out of my VIB money.

That's stupid on their part. They should at least put a limit on the no receipt returns like Target and Walmart. Still keeps the customers happy, but helps stop at least some people from taking advantage of it.

That's really crappy of them. I've already determined that Buy Buy Baby has better prices on the same items and it's worth it for me to drive 30 minutes out there, instead of 5 minutes to BRU for my big purchases.
From what I understand from the associate and this is it still needs some form of receipt.
We received tons of gifts from BRU even though we didn't register there. I'm glad this wasn't in place when I was trying to do returns because no one gave us a damn gift receipt.

Agreed. I fear though that more stores will be going this route.

Ugh. We don't have a BBB and BRU is a common place to get gifts from. I am sure we will get stuff we don't need/want for 3.0 from BRU. I was planning on exchanging, but I guess that won't happen now.
This is why I always include gift receipts taped to the item, even if it looks a little tacky.

I hate BRU. *hate* I needed a stroller quickly, so I called to make sure they had it in stock. I drive the hour there w/ DS in tow. I get there, and the stroller is $100 more (!!!!) than the price on their website. I talk to the manager, who shows me the words "online price only" in tiiiiny little letters on their website. I ask nicely for them to honor the online price and the manager says no. So, BRU won't price match their own website. I see a "pickup in store" option on the website, and ask the manager to do that, so I can "pick it up" at the online price. She says "that takes 2 hours to process" It's way past DS's nap time and he's cranky, I can't just hang out for two hours. So I tell the manager I'm leaving and will order from Amazon b/c of BRU's terrible policies and customer service. She says "ok have fun." To conclude, in The Simpsons Comic Book Guy's voice, "worst store EVER."
Dude, that blows. Maybe they'll get so much push back that they'll change it back. It sucks that asshats take advantage and that ruins it for folks that are on the up-and-up. So what are you supposed to do when you get 3 diaper genies w/o a gift receipt. Pfft.

OMG, that makes me feel ragey on your behalf, especially given the pick up in store option. I would be seeing red.

Um, why is this a big deal? Dont you usually have a receipt? Last time I went to BRU, I bought 8-10 items and the cashier insisted on giving me one gift receipt per item. Even the last minute candy I grabbed.

If you did not buy the item and you weren't given a gift receipt, then you would not be able to return/exchange duplicates or unwanted items at BRU. I've pretty much stopped going there because the prices aren't great and I can usually find what I want at BBB, or more likely, Amazon.

It's a huge deal when you get presents from other people and they don't give you a receipt, if its something you already have or simply don't need.
Also it's just lame. Sometimes people lose receipts--especially busy people with kids who may rip or throw out receipts if they get ahold of them. Has happened to me more than once. Most major retailers will at least look up recent purchases by scanning your credit card or give you a limited amount of no-receipt returns a year. It's like BRU is trying to shunt business to their competitors with this dick move.
Another great reason to drive the extra 25 minutes from my home to shop at Buy Buy Baby.
BRU is probably my most hated retail chain of all time.
We absolutely detest BRU (and by default TRU) and stopped shopping there before DD was even born, that's how bad our experience was with their "customer service." I've even asked immediate family to NOT shop there, one out of principle, and two because I don't want to have to deal with them in the event of a return.
We have no other children's stores around here, so we just do everything kid related through Amazon now.
I really think BRU just blatantly does not give a shit about their customers. I have felt this way since before my DD was born too.

Good for you?
It's a big deal when people lose receipts, get gifts they don't want, and I can count on one hand the number of gift receipts I got for all of the gifts we got for DS. It was absurd how few gift receipts we got.
In a perfect world we'd all have receipts. But the world isn't perfect.

They are pretty crudy. I had heard that they would honor competitor coupons, so I went to make a purchase counting on that 20% off BBB coupon. BBB didn't sell the exact product or I would have just gone there. BRU wouldn't take it because "there isn't a BBB anywhere near here". Its 20 miles, but still in the same metro area. Only the other BRU that is 9 miles from BBB will honor their coupons.

Most of my gifts will be from BRU, so I'm just praying people will be kind enough to give me receipts. I'm doing all my purchasing through BBB instead. 20% coupons are the best.

Oh I was! I think I said something like "Am I hearing you right? You won't price match your own website? SERIOUSLY?" The manager was just so matter-of-fact about it. "No, we can't." When I told DH the story, he was like "well no one price matches Amazon honey." I re-explained "No, they wouldn't match their OWN website." Then he got it and was like :-|
