Thermometer for an older child

What thermometer are you using with your 3+ yo?

DD turns 3 in a couple of weeks. I have been using rectal thermometer since she was born. But last time I had to take her temp, she wasn't very happy about it. Now, I'm wondering if it's time to switch to another type of thermometer. When did you switch to a different thermometer? What type are you using now? Any recommendation?

We use a temporal thermometer. I've used it since they were babies (after I double checked it with a rectal). It's the Exergen you can buy at Target. It's great and neither kid minds us taking a temperature.

We've been using an underarm since he was born. Vicks Speed Read $10ish

It's a great thermometer. Sometimes it can be a pain to take his shirt off though, I've been thinking of getting an ear or forehead one.

We have the same one. It's great.

Thanks for the recommendations. I guess I could have switched to a different thermometer earlier, but I was always told at the pedi that rectal is best.

Another vote for the temporal. If he's running a fever, i often will take two readings and make sure they are the same.
