H and I are going to be in NYC the first weekend in October. We aren't really sure the exact dates but we're thinking Friday-Tuesday. We are primarily going to see a Yankees game but we'd like to spend a day or two doing other things. We know we want to see something on broadway and visit the statue of liberty.
I'm looking for recommendations of where to stay (either areas of NYC or a specific hotel), other things to do and broadway shows. TIA!!
We went 2 weeks ago and loved Newsies on Broadway and took a bike tour in Central Park. We stayed in 2 different hotels, one was the Doubletree Metropolitan in midtown east via Priceline (okay, good location) and anther was the Milford Plaza (newly renovated) in Times Square. It is very convenient if you watch a show. I would check travelzoo for good deals. We had an amazing meal at Marea and also enjoyed Shake Shack, Katz Deli. You can also get free tix online to see the 9-11 memorial. It is near Battery Park, where the ferry to the Statue of Liberty is. Oh, you can also get tix to see tapings of David Letterman or Jimmy Fallon. it's a fun way to see celebs.
Don't have a lot of recommendations for places to stay since I lived there... but whenever family came to visit they'd stay at the Hilton on 6th ave and 52nd St. (really close to just about everything - Times Square, Rock Center, Central Park).
Here are some fun things to do...
- Top of the Rock (Great view, cheaper than Empire State Bldg tour and not as long of a line) - Get frozen hot chocolates at Serendipity - South Street Seaport (great view of the bridges and fun place to drink / grab food during the day) - Jersey Boys is a great show all around - it should still be playing. Wicked and Phantom are also my long-time favorites. Always a good time. - Chinatown is crazy crowded, but if you want the experience, go for it. It's a different world down there. - Union Square is fun to walk around (there are great restaurants and usually some sort of street performance / things to watch in the park) - there's also one of my favorite places to go when I have a sweet tooth - Max Brenner (amazing chocolate) - Central Park - go to the Boathouse for brunch and drinks. If you're feeling adventurous, get a paddleboat.
